Juan Alcázar Mendez is Oaxaqueño. His work is sensual and deeply imaginative. He studied in Oaxaca and in Jalapa, Veracruz, during the ‘60s and early 70’s specializing in print making. In 1973 he became a teacher of print making in the School of Fine Art at Benito Juarez Autonomous University in Oaxaca. He studied lithography in Mexico City. In 1974, he was one of the founders of the Taller de Artes Plasticas Rufino Tamayo in Oaxaca with Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo, and Roberto Donis. In 1993 he was appointed director of the Taller (workshop). Alcazar’s work has been shown in a multitude of collective exhibitions in Mexico, the United States, Japan, England, Germany, Holland, and Australia from 1982 to the present. One man exhibitions have appeared throughout Mexico, and in Massachusetts and New York.
