"A partnership to exhibit and sell contemporary fine art from Oaxaca, Mexico."
Shinzaburo
Takeda was born in Japan in 1935 and graduated from the University of
Fine Arts in Tokyo in 1957. He traveled to Mexico in 1963 and
studied mural painting and lithography for several years and later
worked as a painter and graphic artist in the National Museum of Mexico.
He relocated to Oaxaca in 1978 and in 1980 was named the head of the
plastic arts section of the School of Fine Arts at the Benito Juarez
Autonomos University in Oaxaca. He has made his home in Oaxaca
ever since. Takeda's list of individual and collective exhibitions
in Mexico and Japan is very long. His work has been seen a little in
the United States -- in Seattle and California. One of his prints
was cited for review in the New York Times review of our exhibition at
Concordia College in 1999. We love his work for his view of
the people, animals, and sites of Mexico that is fond, sensual, deep, and
just a little bit Japanese.Work by Shinzaburo Takeda
